Project
This 29 hectare, former landfill site in Southport was identified as a key regeneration opportunity in the region in the 1990s. However, the complexity of it being a heavily contaminated former landfill site sat on top of 20m of incredibly soft ground made up of peat, sands and silts has always dissuaded development.
Scope of Works
After a successful tender, CCC has worked on several areas of the new build. At the outset CCC removed 250,000 tonnes of hazardous material from the site, removing it to approved tips throughout the North West. We then supplied recycled and quarried aggregates for the construction phase operating in tight site conditions but always to the deadline.
Then after years of thorough and intensive investigations by Hydrock, they developed a unique and integrated design solution to secure the largest mixed-use development in this region in 30 years. It will deliver in excess of 650 homes between 2015 and 2020.
Hydrock developed a system to remediate and stabilise the ground on site. CCC is part of the project to import material of more than 100,000m3 to each phase of the site to a depth of 6-7m. CCC works closely with the onsite team to respond quickly to the demands of the site
The whole remediation programme will take three years to complete,
